Dear Leaders, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers,

For me, this festive season is about one thing: kindness.

It’s something we’ve seen a lot of from our Scouts and volunteers in 2020. You’ve spent the year helping others, even when you’ve been having a tough time yourselves. You’ve done everything you can to support young people. And the way you’ve supported each other is truly inspiring.

Our end of year film is about kindness too. It’s about finding special moments to show how much we care, rediscovering the magic in what we do and the incredible reward of seeing young people’s faces light up (even if it’s on Zoom). That’s special – and that’s all thanks to you.

Watch the film below.

I hope you can find some time to rest and recharge over the holiday (and wow, have you earned it).

Happy and peaceful wishes to you all – and here’s to a better 2021!

Claim the badges earned out with Cub sessions!

There are many, many badges to be awarded through Scouting, some are completed out with the weekly Cubs session and can be done through school, home life or the weekly clubs so many children attend.

We’ve listed just some of the badges we commonly see completed out with the weekly sessions – but there are loads more which may already have been completed! Make sure you look at the Challenge Awards at the bottom as we’d love it if your Cub could complete the Chief Scout’s Silver Award before heading off to Scouts, but we’ll need your help with this.

Thank you!

Parade Day, Sunday 22nd April

Whether you are a Beaver, Cub or Scout, we would love it if you would attend the Annual Parade taking place on Sunday 22nd April.

Please let us know if you can come so we know the numbers. The more of us, the better!

We are looking for parents to help getting the kids to Linlithgow on the day too.

Annual St Georges Day Parade

Annual St George’s Day Parade 2018

On Sunday 22nd April 2018 the Cubs will take part in the annual St Georges Day Parade through Linlithgow. Assembly point for the parade is Low Port Primary School Playground at 2pm and the parade will move off at 2.30 pm to be at St Michaels Church by the Palace ready for the service at 3pm. Please meet us there.

This is a great opportunity to show that Scouting is alive and well in West Lothian, that we have pride in the uniform and our young people, as well as the dedication and commitment of our adult leaders. It is also the day for renewal of promises for all Sections, and knowing we are part of a great organisation.

Join with Scouts all over the world on this special day.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Cubs preparing for camp

With expectations that the weather will get better at some point, the Cubs have started practicing skills for their camping weekend. This week we had two groups covering the Countryside Code and knots and lashings to make a tripod. We have some spaces in the group if you know anyone who would enjoy taking part in Scouting.

Disability Awareness Badge – Homework

For our Cubs, this is the homework which must be in tomorrow, 21st November at the latest – the message they were told last week was, “no homework next week, no badge”.

So here it is for those who have lost the bit of paper!  Please make sure all our Cubs get this done…

Emergency Aid Badge – Homework

As you may know, we’ve been doing the first levels of the Emergency Aid Badges in Beavers and Cubs.  As part of this, we require them to be able to explain some things to other people – we suggested they speak with their favourite grown-ups when they are at home.

The topics they should be able to discuss are –

  • the importance of getting help
  • what to say if you dial 999 or 112
  • helping someone who is unconscious
  • helping someone who is bleeding
  • reassuring someone at the scene of an emergency

Please help them to increase their awareness in emergency care as this is a real life skill!
